(KRON) — Two East Bay residents died in a single-car crash near the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Hickory Street in Newark on Thursday, according to the Newark Police Department.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at about 5:28 p.m. and determined that one of the victims was ejected during the crash.
“Emergency personnel immediately rendered aid, but despite these efforts, both occupants succumbed to their injuries,” the Newark Police Department said.

Police identified the driver as a 33-year-old man from Hayward and the passenger as a 31-year-old man from Union City. The crash remains under investigation.
This crash is Newark’s first deadly car crash of 2025.
