The 40 Acre Wood hosting fall scavenger hunts in October

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Forty Acre Wood is inviting the community to participate in family friendly fall scavenger hunts, held every Sunday in October from noon-6 p.m.

The scavenger hunts are designed as self-guided walks through a 1.2-mile path of forest trails. They are geared toward children aged 3-10, but Forty Acre Wood Owner Wendy Smithson said they’ll be fun for all ages.

“We’ve had couples come out and do it together, parents carrying babies in pouches and lots of families just spending time outdoors,” she said. “It’s definitely designed with children in mind, but there’s something for everyone.”

For just $5 per person, families can visit The Forty Acre Wood and participate in a scavenger hunt. Upon arrival, guests will receive a list of fall-themed and Halloween-inspired items to find along the trail. Maps are available for an additional $1, or participants can scan a QR code for a digital version. Most of the clues and items are placed along the same 1.2-mile path used during the recent Laps for Lincoln event, making navigation easy for everyone.

Playful spooky surprises are set up throughout the woods, including a mysterious figure near the old homeplace. While no prizes are offered for completing in the scavenger hunts, Smithson explained it’s all about fun and spending time together as a family. Most families take around 30 to 45 minutes to complete the loop. In addition to the scavenger hunt, The Forty Acre Wood offers amenities that invite families to spend a whole afternoon on-site. The trail ends near the property’s rustic playground, giving kids time to burn off energy after the hunt. Several picnic areas are also available for those who want to pack a lunch.

Guests can drop in any time between noon and 6 p.m., enjoy the scavenger hunt at their own pace and leave when they’re ready.

“This is just something fun and simple to do with your kids — a way to enjoy the season, enjoy nature and make memories together,” said Smithson.

The Forty Acre Wood is located at 195 Seven Bark Dr. NW, Cullman, AL 35057. Get more info at www.thefortyacrewood.com.
