Peabody High homecoming prompts road closures, parking limits

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – City officials are urging drivers to plan ahead for road closures and parking restrictions in place Saturday, Sept. 27, for the Peabody Magnet High School homecoming tailgating festivities.

According to the City of Alexandria, Jones Avenue from Broadway Avenue to University Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow for pedestrian movement during the event.

Parking will also be prohibited along Jones Avenue between Broadway Avenue and University Street and along University Street between Jones Avenue and the Sandy Bayou Bridge.

Tailgating parking will be available behind W.O. Hall Elementary, accessible from University Street. However, vehicle parking will not be allowed within designated tailgating spaces.

The city said designated tailgating areas include:

• Cheatham Baseball Field parking lot
• Cheatham Basketball Court parking lot
• The grassy area between the basketball courts
• Pavilion parking area
• Cheatham Park playground parking lot and grassy area

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and follow posted signage throughout the day.
