Lumberjacks Food Outlet Captures the Spirit of Bogalusa

BOGALUSA, La. (WGNO) — Lumberjacks Food Outlet is a generous sponsor of the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival. Owner Ron Feske and his wife, Mandy, are proud to be a part of positive change in Bogalusa, transforming the market in May of 2024.

Grocery carts fill up fast at this motherlode of bargains. You’ll find everything from trash cans to chicken nuggets to fresh produce and delicious baked goods.

“Lumberjacks is a combination between a regular supermarket and a discount outlet, you never know what you’re going to find here,” Feske told WGNO reporter Stephanie Oswald and Photographer Jeffrey Kent.

“We have three aisles of red baskets here, which are always great deals. We have a whole frozen section of things you may not find other places. It may be here today, gone tomorrow!” says Feske.

A mural of the old paper mill on the wall and vintage vehicles in several places add to the hometown feel.

“This was going to be an empty building, Bogalusa and Washington Parish, they would have not had a grocery store here,” says Feske as he showed the WGNO crew some of the deals on display.

“People like to go back to a more simple time, and when you step into Lumberjacks, you have the convenience of modernization, but you have all the stuff you miss from the past,” he says.

Lumberjacks isn’t just a grocery store; it represents the heart of Bogalusa. Ron and his wife, Mandy, and the whole Lumberjack team, are constantly giving back to the community.

“A few months ago, we did a food drive with the Red Hat ladies. We support the Bogalusa Help Center, which is our local food bank, the American Legion, this is our first year sponsoring the Blues Festival,” says Feske.

The store is named for the Bogalusa High School mascot, and the lumberjack in the logo is none other than Ron Feske himself!

“I’ve never chopped a piece of wood in my life, but yes, I am the original lumberjack, yes,” Feske admits.

But he does chop down prices daily, embracing the Lumberjack spirit and the Bogalusa community. Feske says he is the face of the company, but Mandy is the heart and soul.

If you need anything while you’re in town for the festival, head to the food outlet on Cumberland Street in Bogalusa.
