According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, agents cited Justin Boudreaux, 27, Joel Ellis Jr., 63, and Odie J. Bryant, 39, all of Palmetto, for their roles in the July 30 incident.
Investigators said Boudreaux shot the pregnant doe with a .22 rimfire rifle near his home, despite deer season being closed. Ellis and Bryant allegedly helped drag the animal back to Boudreaux’s property and assisted in cleaning it.
Boudreaux was cited Aug. 5 for hunting deer during a closed season and using illegal hunting methods. Ellis was cited the same day for possession of an illegally taken deer. Bryant was cited Sept. 7 for the same charge.
During the investigation, authorities discovered Bryant had two active warrants out of Lafayette Parish. He was arrested on Sept. 7 and booked into the St. Landry Parish Correctional Facility, where he awaits extradition.
The three men each face fines and potential jail time. Hunting deer during a closed season carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail. Using illegal methods carries a fine of up to $500 and up to 90 days in jail. Possession of an illegally taken deer carries up to a $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.
The suspects may also owe $1,624 in civil restitution for the replacement value of the deer.
The investigation was led by Sgt. Tyler Smith, Sgt. Brandon Fontenot, Senior Agent Nicholas Ortego, and Agent Lane DeVillier.
