According to a fundraiser
If that wasn’t bad enough, while he was lying face down on the sidewalk in shock, the DJ was robbed of his wallet by a passerby, who according to the fundraiser, he initially thought was approaching him to help.
Described in the fundraiser as a “bright light in San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ nightlife,” DJ BSJ is the creative force behind long-running club nights like “Disco Daddy” at the SF Eagle and “The Tubesteak Connection” at Auntie Charlie’s Lounge. Known as the “Godfather of Bathhouse Disco,” DJ BSJ, according to the fundraiser, is widely hailed as a “vinyl archeologist” of “original, unadulterated disco and its sister genres.”
“For more than two decades his cell phone-free nightlife experiences have elevated dancers’ spirits and encouraged (re)connection, leading to the creation of a special, intergenerational community of music lovers from every walk of life,” the fundraiser continues.
While DJ Bus Station John has health insurance, he has undergone surgery to repair multiple fractures in his left shoulder. This will see him out of the DJ booth and away from the turntables for some months, the fundraiser states.
The fundraiser is looking to raise money to help him with everyday expenses like rent, utilities, food, and other essentials during this long layoff.
“If you’ve ever been uplifted on a Bus Station John dance floor, here’s an opportunity to show some love and help lift him up,” the fundraiser conclude. For more information, or to donate, click here.
