3 injured in shooting on Indy’s near southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — A late Thursday night shooting left three people injured on the near southeast side of Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 11:40 p.m. to a residence in the 1900 block of East Minnesota Street. A caller, who was not at the scene, said someone had been shot at the location.

When officers arrived, they located two adults with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and the second victim was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. IMPD said both victims were in stable condition.

While officers were on scene, they learned a third person had arrived at Eskenazi Hospital with reported gunshot wounds. IMPD said the third victim, an adult, was in stable condition.

Police believe a disturbance occurred inside the residence before the shooting.

“What little information we have now is there was some type of disturbance that was going on here, and then shots were fired,” said Capt. Don Weilhammer with IMPD.

IMPD believes there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The person who initially reported the shooting didn’t have firsthand knowledge about the circumstances, police said, but called 911 after hearing about the incident.

IMPD did not give a description of a suspect, and stated that the victims weren’t cooperating with detectives.

“Obviously, they’re in some pain, they’re in shock, so hopefully once they get a little bit of treatment at the hospital, they’ll talk to the detective that’s on the scene there, and hopefully we can get this straightened out,” Weilhammer said.
