Woman dies after hit-and-run on Richmond Highway in Fairfax County
Around 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 23, officers with the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) were dispatched to the crash on Richmond Highway and Belford Drive in Hybla Valley.
While approaching the scene, officers found the woman lying in the road.
“The extent of that contact is under investigation. However, per our department policy, we are treating it as a critical incident,” said Captain Katzman with FCPD during a media briefing on Tuesday night.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.
She was identified as 62-year-old Trina Jones.
Preliminarily, detectives believe that Jones was crossing Richmond Highway. A 2016 black Mercedes C300 then struck her.
Police said the driver did not stop after the crash and continued southbound.
An officer responding to the scene also struck Jones, according to police.
That officer is a two-year veteran on the force who has been placed on restricted duty status pending the outcome of the investigation.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call (703) 246-7800, option 2.
