Truck driver awarded $32 million in slip-and-fall case against ExxonMobil

CHICAGO — A truck driver has been awarded $32 million in a workplace slip-and-fall case against ExxonMobil.

The driver’s law firm of Horwitz, Horwitz & Associates announced the settlement in a news release Tuesday.

According to the release, Stephanie Johnson slipped on oil at an ExxonMobil’s facility. Johnson fell on her left and hand and developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

A jury found “ExxonMobil 100% responsible and awarded damages that reflect both the severity of Johnson’s condition and the scope of ExxonMobil’s negligence,” the news release said.

“I’m grateful that justice has been done. This verdict isn’t just for me — it’s for every worker who has been harmed by corporate carelessness,” Johnson said in a statement.

In a statement shared with WGN News, a spokesperson for ExxonMobil said the company plans to appeal the decision.

“This is an irrational verdict that is completely untethered to the evidence presented at trial. We will pursue all appellate relief available,” an ExxonMobil spokesperson said Wednesday.
