Small earthquake jolts East Bay Thursday morning

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A preliminary 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck the East Bay on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was 2 miles east-southeast of Berkeley.

The tremblor occurred at 5:55 a.m., USGS said, at a depth of nearly 5 miles. People reported feeling weak to light shaking in Berkeley and Oakland, according to USGS’s “Did You Feel It?”

The small shake comes days after the greater Bay Area felt a 4.3-magnitude earthquake that originated in Berkeley early Monday. That quake was followed by two aftershocks greater than 2.5M later the same day.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries Thursday morning.
