Rockford detectives arrest man on weapons charges after ‘shots fired’ call on Benton Street
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police officers, assisted by Rockford’s Violent Crime, Narcotics and Gang Unit detectives, arrested Deandre Edwards, 31, on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of shots fired on Benton Street.

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were summoned to the 1000 block of Benton Street around 10:33 p.m.

When police arrived, Edwards was seen walking into the building. Officers were able to find a spent shell casing nearby, and requested a search warrant to enter the apartment.

Once executed, detectives placed Edwards under arrest. During the search, police said ammunition and two weapons were found.

Edwards now faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
