CHICAGO — A Northwest Side neighborhood known for its rich culinary scene and historic architecture has been ranked among some of “the coolest neighborhoods in the world” by Time Out.

On Wednesday, Time Out released its list of the “39 coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2025,” and Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, which made the list back in 2022,

has climbed into the top 10.

Time Out, an online magazine that compiles guides for cities around the globe, named Avondale as the fifth coolest neighborhood in the world in its latest list.

Avondale, which was one of the only five U.S. neighborhoods to make the list, came in just after London’s Camberwell neighborhood.

Time Out’s Things to Do Editor Shannon Shreibak, who wrote the excerpt on the neighborhood, called it a “Northwest Side gem.”

“Avondale houses an eclectic mix of charming two-flats and bungalows, vibrant street art, repurposed warehouses and lively stretches of Polish and Latin American storefronts,” Shreibak said in the article.

According to Time Out, while the criteria for what makes a neighborhood “cool: is subjective, each one on the list has what it describes as “terrific food and beverage options, vibrant culture, a bustling nightlife scene and a strong sense of community.”

This year’s list was put together with the help of thousands of readers from around the globe who shared their favorite spots, as well as input from the Time Out editors.

In previous years, other Chicago neighborhoods have made the list, including Logan Square in 2024, Hyde Park in 2023 and Andersonville in 2021.
