LaGRANGE, Ga (WRBL) — The LaGrange Animal Shelter announced on Thursday that they will be offering free adoptions for dogs and cats for the entire month of October.

According to LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey, the shelter has an overflow of animals coming in as strays. The shelter currently has 103 dogs and 50 cats.

There is also a waiting list for people wanting to surrender their pet for various reasons.

After seeing all the adoptable animals in the shelter, local Veterinarian Dr. Amanda Greathouse with the Troup County Mobile Vet reached out to Bussey.

Dr. Greathouse wanted to reduce the number of animals in the shelter. Therefore, she has committed to sponsoring all adoptions at the shelter in October.

All adopted animals will be fully vetted and microchipped before going home.

If families are struggling to provide food for their pets, the shelter will provide free pet food while supplies last. Pet owners are encouraged to have their cats and dogs spayed or neutered to help control the pet population.

The LaGrange Animal Services building is at 1390 Orchard Hill Road in LaGrange. You can contact them at (706) 298-3606 or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/CityOfLaGrangeAnimalShelter/
