How the Grinch Stole Christmas Is Getting a 4K Steelbook, but It's the Jim Carrey Version
One of the most contested topics of conversation between my friends and I every year is about which Grinch movie is the best Grinch movie. I am of the opinion that the original animated version is the only adaptation of the iconic Dr. Seuss character that matters, but my friend group is convinced that the live-action version of the film is far superior. Seeing as the Grinch has been portrayed in three different movies at this point, these arguments are likely only going to get more heated as the younger generation joins the conversation.
Regardless of where you land on which Grinch movie is the best, the Jim Carrey version of the film is the only one getting a new limited-edition 4K steelbook this year. The upcoming collectible edition is available to preorder now for $32.99 and will officially release on November 11. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the film, which has become somewhat of a consistent milestone for steelbook releases on older movies.
If you aren’t familiar with how limited-edition steelbook releases usually work, it’s worth noting that it comes with three versions of the film. You get two discs, the 4K UHD version and the Blu-ray version, as well as a digital copy of the movie you can download. This may seem like overkill, but if your main reason for buying the collector’s edition is to keep it on your shelf, then the digital version is a great way to avoid having to actually take it off your shelf. The physical copies ensure you’ll always have access to the movie, but getting the downloadable version separately will help you integrate it seamlessly into any existing streaming setup.
In addition to the steelbook case and extra disc, the 25th anniversary edition of this movie also includes bonus features. Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll get in the bonus features included:
If you’ve never actually preordered anything from Amazon before, it’s worth noting that if you purchase this steelbook at Amazon, it includes a preorder price guarantee. According to Amazon’s own help page, this means that if the price decreases between now and when the item ships, you’ll pay the lowest price.
This is one of the reasons Amazon is overall one of the best places to 4K and Blu-ray movies before they actually release. Many popular movie preorders will actually receive discounts before their release date, so having a guarantee you’ll still get those even if you lock in your preorder now is hard to pass up.
