The council, which focuses on long-term solutions for the Stateline area, held an open house to provide community members and stakeholders an inside look at their operations and projects.
“Sometimes our work can seem a little abstract,” said Jason Holcomb, director of Community Impact for R1 Planning Council. “We want people to have the opportunity to come in and see not only the physical space, but to meet the people that do the work.”
R1 Planning Council has been operating from its current location for several years, expanding its space to accommodate more staff due to increased demand for its services. The council’s work includes transportation planning, economic development, land use, and community health.
The open house allowed attendees to learn about the council’s recent initiatives, such as the launch of a regional data advisory council. This council aims to develop tools and protocols for sharing data across the community, involving cross-sector partners from government, business, and nonprofit sectors.
The historic building housing the council offers great views of the river, contributing to a pleasant working environment. The expansion provides more conference room space for public meetings, enhancing community engagement.
Holcomb emphasized the importance of collaboration among community members and stakeholders to position Rockford competitively with other communities nationwide.
