According to a press release from the Grand Canyon National Park, during July 2025, the Dragon Bravo Fire destroyed or severely damaged
The North Rim’s water pipeline, electrical utilities, and wastewater treatment plant also sustained severe damage.
On Oct. 1, Grand Canyon National Park will be reopening Highway 67 to the W1 road and the Cape Royal Road, which provide access to Point Imperial and Cape Royal. Other areas that will reopen to public access are Fire Point and Swamp Ridge, which will be open from sunrise to sunset daily, and accessible until Nov. 30, 2025, or the first major snowfall.
Although these areas are accessible again, officials are warning the public to be cautious while recreating. The Dragon Bravo Fire left behind hazards like dead standing trees and higher potentials for flash flooding. Crews using equipment are also working on recovery operations.
Additionally, there is currently no power, running water, cell service, or visitor services available to those on the North Rim. Grand Canyon National Park states that visitors should plan ahead, ensuring they have all needed food, water, supplies, and fuel.
Emergency response to the North Rim will be “extremely limited” and response times “may be significantly delayed,” the national park warns.
While these areas are reopening, the North Kaibab Trail will remain closed due to “extensive damage and rockfalls,” according to the national park. For updates on areas that are reopening and more information, visit the Grand Canyon National Park’s website.
