Grand campus reimagination plan gets the green light at K-State

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Education officials have given Kansas State University approval for its wide-reaching campus master plan to move forward.

K-State has worked for the last two years to bring its new campus master plan to life. The Kansas Board of Regents gave its approval for the proposal during its meeting on Sept. 17.

The master plan lays out a new vision for K-State’s campuses in Manhattan, Salina and Olathe that will allow it to carry forward its needs for the next 10 to 15 years. Thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni and others contributed to the shape of the plan.

“A colleague once told me, ‘If you don’t dream it and you don’t plan it, it doesn’t happen,'” said President Richard Linton when sharing highlights of the plan during the State of Our University address on Sept. 5. “Kansas State University, we have a lot of dreamers who are dreaming every single day. And we have people who can plan strategically to be able to execute and make things happen.”

K-State’s plan involves the reimagination of spaces on its campuses to support collaboration, innovation and student success. Five major principles guide the plan:

  • Enhance the K-State experience.
  • Transform the built environment.
  • Expand research.
  • Improve campus connectivity.
  • Promote stewardship and resilience.

“The plan is ambitious and adaptable, with its timeline and scope continually evolving based on university priorities, needs and available funding, including potential private support. K-State leaders will refine the plan and present it to KBOR every three years.”

K-State’s Manhattan campus will undergo the most changes under the new plan including the addition of new buildings and enhancements to existing facilities. People visiting campus in the days ahead can expect to see big changes at Anderson Hall, Bosco Student Plaza, Ahearn Field House, Campus Creek and the Edge District.

“This is an exciting time for K-State,” said Casey Lauer, associate vice president for Facilities at K-State. “Our new master plan strategically guides the development of our campuses, ensuring our facilities and infrastructure align with our academic mission, values and priorities outlined in our Next-Gen K-State strategic plan. The future of our campuses will be defined by the choices we make together — grounded in tradition, inspired by innovation and built for the future.”
