WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 36-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly killed his mother inside their Southeast D.C. home, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Just minutes before 4 a.m. on Sept. 21, officers responded to the 2100 block of 32nd Place SE for an assault. There, police found 66-year-old Pamela Botts, who had been stabbed multiple times.

She was taken to the hospital, where she died on Sept. 23, according to D.C. police.

Court documents revealed that Pamela’s son, Ricardo Botts, allegedly attacked her in their living room, stabbing her repeatedly in her head and face.

After the deadly stabbing, Botts ran out the back of the house as police arrived.

On Sept. 22, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Botts in connection with the murder investigation. He was located and taken into custody in Chantilly, Va.

Botts is being held without bond, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
