• Video Above: Meteor-like object shoots through California Sky
Around 7:45 p.m., calls began to flood into the FOX40 newsroom about a meteor, or something similar to it, traveling through the sky. Reports came in from Rocklin, Shingle Springs, Salida, and the Sacramento area.
“It was right over our heads,” said Sacramento resident Joey Becker. He said he was unloading groceries from his car with his dad when they saw the object in the sky. “It was like a giant moving comet. And it seemed to have a huge physical body attached to it. It kind of looked like a rocket with a single orange flame coming from it.”
He added, “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. There was no sound or anything coming from it. It just kept moving. It was kind of creepy.”
Video footage shows a fire-like object darting across the skyline. While some people were somewhat afraid, others said they were intrigued.
“It was really interesting. I’m not sure what to make of it,” said Curtis Schultz, a Sacramento security guard who was patrolling an area near Discovery Park when he saw the object in the sky. “I’m not really sure what I saw. A satellite? A meteor? I’ve always heard about them, but I never saw them in person.
Kirsten Vernon, a Shingle Springs resident, said she was outside feeding livestock and filling up water when she was surprised by a fire in the sky.
“It just kept getting brighter and brighter. It was really low,” Vernon said. “I started yelling for family to come outside. It was exciting. I figured it was probably something I’d see once in a lifetime.”
This is a developing story.
