According to the sheriff’s office, the Criminal Investigations Unit launched an investigation on Aug. 27 after a physical altercation occurred at Detention Center #1 (DC-1). The probe revealed that a corrections captain, later identified as 59-year-old Roslin Finister of Cottonport, had allegedly committed several criminal offenses while serving as an APSO deputy and full-time captain.
Finister was immediately placed on administrative leave as the investigation continued. Sheriff’s officials said her employment with the agency has since been terminated.
Following the investigation, a warrant was issued by the 12th Judicial District Court, and Finister was arrested on Sept. 24. She faces charges of malfeasance in office (tampering with evidence), obstruction of justice, and malfeasance in office (sexual conduct prohibited with offenders).
Finister was booked into custody and later released after posting a $60,000 bond. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Sheriff David L. Dauzat wants the people of Avoyelles Parish to know that we take our oath of office seriously,” the agency said in a statement. “We hold ourselves to a higher standard. The public has entrusted us to perform our duties lawfully with honesty and integrity, and we will continue to do so.”
Authorities reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
