Troopers say at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP requesting assistance with a collision on Interstate I-69 northbound near the 92-mile marker. The incident involved a semi-truck and trailer versus a sedan.
According to state police, a preliminary investigation indicated that Jose Tovar-Silva, 51, of Sanluis Potosí, Mexico, was operating a semi-truck and trailer southbound on I-69. Troopers said the semi-truck driver reported observing a vehicle traveling northbound that crossed the median and allegedly entered the lane he was in, causing a collision.
Authorities wrote that the driver of the northbound vehicle, identified as Julia Jones, 64, of Blue Mountain, Arkansas, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner. The Yell County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas assisted with notifying the family.
Troopers say the operator of the semi-truck was not injured in the incident. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed.
The KSP says the investigation is ongoing and is being led by Detective Jacob Stephens (U/1216) of the Kentucky State Police.
