Woman’s attorney says client has made progress in staying clean

A woman facing drug-related charges in three felony cases entered a guilty plea to those charges in Baxter County Circuit Court/Criminal Division September 15 and was put on probation for 10 years.

Thirty-one-year-old Trystina Meadows who had an on-again, off-again record of showing up for court or for appointments with her defense attorney has taken a number of steps to address her addiction problem, her current attorney, Emily Reed, told the court.

One of the cases against Meadows was opened in late January 2023 when a compliance visit was done at a home located along State Highway 5 North by members of the 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Meadows was reported to be living there with a male who was on probation. Dried Psilocybin mushrooms were found in a plastic container as well as two used syringes and a quantity of marijuana.

A set of digital scales with a white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine, two used syringes and a small amount of marijuana were found in a bedroom shared by Meadows and the male.

Through the years, Meadows has had problems keeping appointments. In December last year, her original defense attorney, Ben Burnett, withdrew from her case after she missed multiple scheduled appointments and had not communicated with him for four months. Burnett also told the court Meadows did not have a working phone number making it difficult to work her case.

The sentence handed down Monday requires her to complete the rehabilitation program in which she is now enrolled.

In the cases open on her, Meadows, who has listed address in both Midway and Mountain Home, is charged with distributing controlled substances, making sales of fentanyl and methamphetamine to confidential informants and being in possession of paraphernalia used to ingest drugs.
