Sheriff speaks on the arrest of Ville Platte man for possession of child sexual abuse materials

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) — A man in Ville Platte has been arrested for possessing over a hundred items of child sexual abuse materials, following a multi-agency investigation.

The suspect is currently held in the Evangeline Parish Jail with a bond set at $350,000. The arrest was made after a search warrant was executed in the 300 block of Tina Drive, where the materials were discovered.

Sheriff Charles Guillory of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office explained that the investigation involved cooperation with the Attorney General’s Office, Lafayette Sheriff’s Office, and state police.

“The attorney general, they have more staff that surf the net and investigate any crime that occurs on the computer in this parish,” Guillory said.

The investigation into the suspect’s activities has been ongoing for about three to four months, with a memorandum of understanding established with the Attorney General’s Office approximately six months ago. This collaboration aimed to address the exploitation of children via the internet.

Guillory noted that the suspect used a personal social media account to acquire the illicit materials, which involved individuals at or approaching the age of puberty.

The investigation is still active, and authorities believe there may be additional evidence, potentially leading to more charges.

“They are still looking through it,” Guillory said. “Also, they seem to believe that there’s other evidence.”
