PREP VOLLEYBALL: Cold Springs collects 3-1 area win over Falkville

BREMEN, Ala. – Cold Springs was back home to host an area match against Falkville Tuesday night, and the Eagles celebrated senior night with a 3-1 win over the Blue Devils. After getting off to a slow start and dropping the opening set, Cold Springs battled back to win the next three sets and secure the win.

In the first set, Falkville got out to a quick 9-0 lead. Cold Springs got on the scoreboard on a point by Cheyenne Bishop, but the Lady Blue Devils stretched their lead to 12-2 and held a 14-5 lead later in the set. That’s when the Lady Eagles clawed their way back into the set, as a point by Hagen Ellis was followed by an ace by Kotie Calvert, and that helped them cut it to 14-10. Falkville pushed their lead to 19-12, but Kelsy Wilson collected a kill to trim the deficit to six at 19-13. The Lady Blue Devils, though, went on a 6-3 run to end things, as they ended up winning the first set, 25-16.

It was Cold Springs that started out strong in the second set. Wilson started things out with a point, then Ellis collected a pair of aces and Bishop picked up back-to-back kills, as they jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead. Falkville, though, came back with a run of their own, as their 7-1 run cut it to 9-8. The Lady Eagles held a slim 13-12 lead late in the set, but Wilson collected a kill and Allie Light followed that up with an ace, as that helped them push their lead to 16-12. They quickly pulled away from the Lady Blue Devils after that, outscoring them, 9-4, as Kayleigh Light’s ace helped seal the 25-16 win for Cold Springs in the second set.

Falkville got out to an early 2-1 lead in the third set, but the Lady Eagles quickly got the lead and then some, as a trio of aces by Wilson and a point by Calvert, helped them grab a 7-2 lead. The Lady Blue Devils, though, rallied to tie things up at nine. The third set stayed close after that, with neither team getting more than a four-point lead on the other. Falkville collected back-to-back points to take a 17-15 lead late in the third set. Bishop and Calvert each collected a point, and Joli Williams added an ace to help Cold Springs take a 19-17 lead. An ace by Allie Light gave the Lady Eagles a 22-19 lead. The Lady Blue Devils cut it to 22-21, but Cold Springs got the final three points of the set, as Ellis’ game-winning ace gave them the 25-21 win in the third set.

The Lady Blue Devils grabbed an early 5-1 lead in the fourth set and held an 11-7 lead. The Lady Eagles went on another big run, as Allie Light (ace), Calvert (kill), Wilson (two kills, point, ace), Ellis (point) and Bishop (point) helped them take a 19-13 lead. Falkville trimmed the deficit to 20-17, but Cold Springs kept them at arm’s length the rest of the way. Joli Williams collected an ace to give them a 22-17 lead, and she later collected the game-winning ace, as the Lady Eagles ended up knocking off the Lady Blue Devils, 25-17 and ended up taking the match 3-1.
