Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul puts Louisiana home up for sale: ‘My heart is broken’

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul has put her house up for sale in Louisiana.

Baiul wrote on social media, “Thank you Shreveport!!! house is for sale moving back to Las Vegas … i love u all I am sorry it didn’t work out.”

According to a Zillow listing, the Georgian Italianate mansion built in 1925 at 2525 Fairfield Ave., selling for $1,195,000, is 6,000 square feet and has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The listing said the majority of the home was restored in the last three years.

The mansion sits on a 1.33-acre lot and “exudes the grandeur of crossing from the Gilded Age to New Age” with its seven marble fireplaces, original chandeliers and sconces and floating spiral staircase.

In 1994, Baiul won the Olympic gold medal at the Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway. She has spent three years in Shreveport after moving from Las Vegas in 2022. Baiul said she spent eight years in Las Vegas and moved to Louisiana because she wanted to start a figure skating school there.

Baiul said she can’t find work in Shreveport, and the need to work is why she is going to Las Vegas. “I do love all the people here. I came for a reason, and it did not happen. I came here to create some things, but they did not come to fruition. I have to go where the ice exists,” she said.

In Sin City, she will be working under the NHL Las Vegas Golden Knights umbrella. They have two training facilities with four total ice rinks, which are used for hockey and figure skating.

Baiul is currently between two places. In the meantime, she looks forward to taking part in an upcoming fundraiser in Las Vegas. Cancer survivor and figure skater Scott Hamilton is holding an October event that includes a figure skating show. Baiul said she wants to help raise money for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.

Saying goodbye to Louisiana

Baiul reflects on her time in Shreveport as her house is put up for sale. Along with the people, she loves Louisiana’s cuisine and will carry fond memories. One memory includes skating in her backyard with her daughter when it iced over in Shreveport. She said another blessing from her time in the Pelican State was getting sober.
