North Carolina to receive $1.6 million from FEMA for storm protection measures

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina will receive $1.6 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help better protect the state from storms, federal officials said Wednesday.

According to FEMA, the $1.6 million grant will go to North Carolina Emergency Management.

The state will use the grant for emergency protective measures that include distributing commodities, public messaging, and incident management resulting from Tropical Storm Debby in August 2024, according to FEMA.

Federal officials said the grant is part of $12.7 million distributed across the Southeast to support disaster recovery operations, including in South Carolina and Mississippi.

FEMA will use its Public Assistance program, which helps fund state and local government response and recovery work, to reimburse the costs at not less than a 75% federal share, according to officials.
