Nexstar provides update on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, say they are evaluating situation

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Nexstar Media Group, Inc., ABC4’s parent company, today provided an update regarding the status of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”.

They issued a statement saying, “Nexstar is continuing to evaluate the status of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on our ABC-affiliated local television stations, and the show will be preempted while we do so.  We are engaged in productive discussions with executives at The Walt Disney Company, with a focus on ensuring the program reflects and respects the diverse interests of the communities we serve.”

This comes after Nexstar announced Tuesday that the company’s television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network would continue to pre-empt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’.

The show will continue to be off-air until further notice.

Updates so far

Nexstar announced on Sept. 17 that its ABC affiliates would pre-empt the show indefinitely over the comments made by Kimmel following the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

ABC suspended Kimmel’s show soon after Nexstar’s announcement. However, the Walt Disney Company has since decided to return the show to air beginning Tuesday evening.

In place of Kimmel, ABC4 will be airing the news at 10 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
