New video shows moment rapper DaBaby kicked off light rail while filming music video depicting fatal stabbing

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Newly released CATS surveillance footage shows the moments rapper DaBaby and his film crew were kicked off a Charlotte light rail while filming a controversial music video earlier this month.

The video, obtained by Queen City News, shows several security officers approaching the group aboard the Blue Line, asking them to stop filming and leave the train. The footage reveals the group had multiple cameras and took several minutes to gather their equipment and exit.

You can clearly see the moment DaBaby and his team walk off the train, an event that actually made it into the final cut of the music video for his new song “Save Me.”

The video has stirred public attention for its depiction of the fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in August. The music video begins with real surveillance footage from that night, paused just before the attack, and reenacts the scene with actors.

CATS officials said they did not authorize the shoot and were not informed ahead of time. They confirmed the incident was reported through the See-Say feature on the CATS-Pass App.

The description of the music video reads, “A Dedication to Iryna Zarutska,” with a link to a GoFundMe campaign supporting her family. So far, more than $460,000 has been raised.

The new surveillance footage adds more context to how the unauthorized filming ended.
