Mountain Home woman arrested after trying to take stepmother’s car battery, slashing tires

A Mountain Home woman was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 16 after authorities said she tried to take a car battery during a family dispute that escalated into threats and property damage.
According to a Baxter County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were dispatched at about 1:38 that afternoon. The victim told deputies she caught her stepdaughter, 44-year-old Andreana Fay Smith, trying to remove the battery from her vehicle to install it in Smith’s own car. When the victim refused to let her take it, Smith allegedly became enraged, shouted profanities, and slammed the hood of the car, breaking the latch and grill.

The victim and another witness, said Smith then threatened to “beat” the victim and later told the witness, “I’ll kill you if you had anything to do with this.” The two women went inside to call authorities. While they were inside, Smith allegedly slashed both tires on the driver’s side of the victim’s van. Deputies observed the tires still leaking air at the scene.

Smith denied knowledge of the slashed tires, but deputies arrested her on two counts of third-degree assault on a family or household member and one count of second-degree criminal mischief. She was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center for booking and given a court date of Oct. 23.

Two no-contact orders were issued protecting the victim and the witness.

Smith is free on $1,395 bond.
