Lake Lure’s Flowering Bridge to be restored with FEMA grant

LAKE LURE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge organization has received a FEMA Section 406 grant to the Town of Lake Lure for the construction of a replacement pedestrian bridge across the Rocky Broad River.

This is one of nearly 30 North Carolina Hurricane Helene recovery projects as announced by FEMA Sept. 16.

“The Flowering Bridge is a historic and beautiful piece of Lake Lure that’s become part of the area’s identity,” said Congressman Tim Moore. “I’m grateful to the Trump Administration and FEMA for stepping up with the funding needed to get it rebuilt. This project will support local tourism and marks another important step in rebuilding Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.”

In addition to providing a safe pedestrian connector between the two towns for the use of residents and visitors alike, the new bridge will once again tie together the east and west end gardens, allowing for the restoration of the Flowering Bridge to begin.

The grant is only for the pedestrian walkway. The Flowering Bridge organization continues to raise funds to complete the Education Center and rebuild the gardens.
