HCSO: Brief chase leads to car crashing into utility pole in Avon
Law enforcement agencies, including the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, began a pursuit of a black vehicle at a gas station on Wednesday afternoon. The chase ended minutes later near the intersection of Raceway Road and U.S. Highway 36.
Officials with the sheriff’s office told FOX59/CBS4 that the black car hit another vehicle before it smashed into the pole. This resulted in extensive damage to the black vehicle’s passenger side, a cracked windshield and the deployment of airbags.
Officials said that all individuals involved in the chase have been “accounted for and have non-life-threatening injuries.” Two of the passengers were found in the car, and another was found after a brief foot chase. No other information was provided on potential arrests, nor the genders of the individuals.
The car that the black vehicle ran into caused non-life-threatening injuries to its occupants. The Washington Township/Avon Fire Department confirmed that multiple individuals involved in the crash were hospitalized, but none of their injuries appeared to be serious.
The chase, as well as the subsequent crash, continues to be under investigation.
This is at least the second vehicle pursuit Avon police have been involved in this year. Back in February, an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop near US Highway 40 and Ronald Reagan Parkway in Plainfield. Officials said the suspect’s vehicle hit another at the intersection, causing it to burst into flames. An infant and a 3-year-old boy died as a result. S’Doni Pettis has been charged in the fatal crash.
Representatives for the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office and Avon Police Department were not available to go on camera to talk about Wednesday’s chase or their pursuit policies.
