The cats were found starving in a U-Haul on June 29 in a Santa Nella parking lot; 106 survived, but 28 were found dead.
After receiving extensive medical treatment, nourishment, and some much-needed TLC, the sheriff’s office announced that four are finally ready for adoption: Barbie, Tangerine, Benny, and Marge.
To be considered, a regular adoption application and a supplemental Persian cat application must be completed. Applications will be accepted until noon Saturday and can be picked up in person at 2150 Shuttle Dr. in Atwater, or requested electronically by emailing animalservices@countyofmerced.com
After review, applicants will be entered into a drawing for each cat currently available. The drawing will be held live on Instagram on Tuesday; winners will also be contacted by phone in case they are unable to watch the live event.
