LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Hunters in Arkansas checked 162 alligators during the first weekend of the 2025 hunting season.
With 42 tags remaining, the second and final weekend of the hunt will begin 30 minutes after sunset on Sept. 26. It will end 30 minutes before sunrise on Sept. 29.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Herpetologist Amanda Bryant advised hunters to stay up to date on the quota.
“I update the hotline and website every day, and each of these quota hunts has the potential to close as early as the first night of the next hunt,” Bryant said. “I’d advise alligator hunters to keep that looming quota in mind if they think about passing up any opportunity this weekend.”
The largest alligator taken so far has measured 13 feet 1 inch on private land, Bryant said.
