AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Fire Department reported that its crews will be deployed to Mineral Wells, Texas for wildfire standby amidst heightened risk of wildfires.

Officials said the Amarillo Fire Department Wildland Team will be deployed to Mineral Wells for a 14-day wildfire severity standby assignment. The crew includes four AFD members who responded with Grass 11.

According to AFD, a period of heightened fire activity across the state prompted the call to the department.

“Our wildland team stands ready to assist in protecting communities and natural resources during this heightened fire season,” said AFD officials. “We are proud of their unwavering commitment to serving not just Amarillo, but the entire state when called upon.”

The Amarillo Fire Department said residents need to remain cautious with outdoor activities, especially during periods of elevated fire danger. Avoiding outdoor burning, properly discarding cigarettes, and maintaining defensible space around property can help reduce wildfire risk.
