Watch for restrictions from these interstate construction projects
Here’s a look at some of the work planned for this week.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, pavement marking and barrier wall work on the east side of Indianapolis will result in some overnight lane and ramp restrictions.
Starting around 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, three left lanes of I-465 southbound will close between 56th Street and I-70 until around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. After those lanes reopen, three right lanes of I-465 southbound will close between 56th St. and I-70 until around 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29.
The Pendleton Pike (U.S. 36) ramp to I-465 southbound will also close around 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and reopen around 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29.
Work is also planned on I-70.
Starting around 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, one left lane of I-70 eastbound and westbound will close between I-465 and Post Road until 5 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, the I-465 northbound and southbound ramps to I-70 will close until 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Drivers will encounter overnight lane closures on I-65 southbound on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
INDOT will reduce the interstate to one lane for barrier wall demolition. The restrictions will run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 24), Thursday (Sept. 25) and Friday (Sept. 26).
I-65 southbound will be reduced to one lane between I-65/I-465 interchange and Rural Street. A reduced speed limit of 45 mph will be in effect for the work zone.
This is part of the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project.
A ramp closure is set to end this week in Wayne County. The ramp from I-70 westbound to U.S. 40 westbound is expected to reopen on Saturday (Sept. 27) morning.
The ramp has been closed since July for interchange reconstruction.
In order to get things ready, some restrictions will be in place this week.
According to INDOT, the old U.S. 40 interchange is being replaced with a diamond interchange that includes single-lane roundabouts. When the ramp reopens, drivers will use half of the future roundabouts under construction; the fully reconstructed interchange is set to open in late 2026.
Lane restrictions are on the way in October.
I-70 eastbound will be reduced to a single lane in two-to-three-mile sections from west of S.R. 1 to west of Centerville. This will start on Friday, Oct. 3, and run for at least four weekends. Closures will run from 10 p.m. on Fridays through 7 a.m. on Mondays.
The work is part of the Revive I-70 project.
INDOT anticipates long backups and significant delays during these closures and urges drivers to use alternate routes.
The agency said all work schedules depend on the weather and could shift based on the conditions outside.
