Authorities responded to the two-vehicle crash around 4:45 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-580, west of Grant Line Road. Arriving CHP officers found a black Tesla Model Y down an embankment and a white Honda Accord blocking the right lanes.
According to crash investigators, a 21-year-old Stockton man driving the Honda collided with the rear of the Tesla, being driven by a 66-year-old Tracy man. The Tracy man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Honda driver was transported to a hospital for moderate injuries.
“It is suspected that alcohol and/or drugs may have been factors in the crash,” CHP Dublin wrote.
After evaluation at the hospital, the Honda driver was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
