INDIANAPOLIS — The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory for portions of central Indiana Monday night.

The alert, which the NWS sent around 9 p.m., indicates the advisory is in effect in the following counties: Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Decatur, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Lawrence, Jackson and Jennings.

In its report, the NWS indicated that a dense fog has blanketed counties throughout Indiana. That fog has reduced visibility to about a quarter of a mile or less in some areas.

The NWS reported that the fog will make driving conditions hazardous. The organization also expects the fog to become widespread late Monday night and Tuesday morning, particularly in low-lying areas.

The NWS is encouraging those who must drive in the fog to slow down, use their headlights and leave plenty of distance between other cars

The Dense Fog Advisory is expected to last through 9 a.m. Tuesday.
