Anthony Sandoval-Lopez, 23, of San Francisco, was charged with assault upon a peace officer, making a false report to law enforcement and resisting arrest.
At 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sandoval-Lopez reported to the Daly City Police Department that five males armed with knives had robbed him, according to prosecutors. Arriving officers began to question the validity of the alleged victim’s story “based on his demeanor and responses,” the DA’s office said.
Without warning, Sandoval-Lopez took out a pair of scissors and stabbed an officer twice in the chest, prosecutors said. The officer avoided injury due to the vest and jacket he was wearing.
Officers reacted by taking out their handguns and ordered Sandoval-Lopez to drop the scissors. After initially refusing, Sandoval-Lopez surrendered once officers threatened to release a K-9 or tase him, the DA’s office said.
Sandoval-Lopez allegedly told police that he wanted the officers to kill him, according to prosecutors.
Bail was set at $10,000. The case returns to court on Oct. 2.
