Hot on Tuesday, then front brings threat of storms
One more hot day: Tuesday will probably end up being the hottest day of the week. Temperatures on Tuesday morning will begin in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Afternoon highs on Tuesday will likely return to the low to middle 90s.
Cold front brings storms: We will begin to catch a break from the heat on Wednesday. The price for this relief will be the threat of some strong to severe storms on Tuesday night and possibly Wednesday. Tuesday will mainly be a dry day with only some isolated showers and thunderstorms possible. Late Tuesday afternoon, strong to severe storms will develop near a cold front to our north. These storms will begin to move into our area late Tuesday evening and Tuesday night. They will probably be strongest where they arrive soonest over the northwestern edge of the area. Damaging wind and large hail will be our main threats. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.
How much rain? The latest 7-day rainfall outlook from the Weather Prediction Center indicates that our area will receive ¾” to 1.5” of rain. Hi-res models, including Futurecast, show that parts of the area could see some impressive totals of 2-5”.
Cooler air on the way! Once the cold front moves through the area and the storms end on Wednesday, we will settle into a dry and cooler weather pattern for the rest of the week. Daytime highs will fall into the mid to upper 80s. Overnight lows will dip into the low to middle 60s. Next week is also looking dry as temperatures warm back up into the lower 90s. Overnight lows next week will warm back into the mid to upper 60s. I will have more detailed look at Tuesday night’s severe weather threat in my Weather Worries article once new data is available.
