FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating an officer-involved stabbing in an area in northwest Fort Wayne.

According to a press release, police were dispatched at 5:59 p.m. to the area of 2100 Saint Mary’s Avenue for a domestic disturbance. During the investigation, an argument occurred between an individual and a Fort Wayne Police officer.

At 6:07 p.m. officer called for assistance, reporting that an officer had been stabbed. As a result of the threat, officers shot their firearms.

The injured officer fired their weapon, shooting the suspect. Emergency medical teams were called to the scene to treat the injured officer and suspect.

The officer was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

At least 30 FWPD police cars were spotted on the scene by WANE 15, alongside the Indiana State Police and Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

The officers who shot their weapons were placed on administrative leave as part of department protocol.

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey, whose agency just endured a violent weekend in Indianapolis, issued the following statement on the Fort Wayne stabbing in a post on X:

“Our hearts are with the Fort Wayne Police Department tonight,” Bailey wrote. “We’re praying for the injured officer, their family, and the FWPD team. IMPD offers our full support during this difficult time. Our gratitude goes to everyone working to keep their community safe.”
