EVANGELINE PARISH, La (
KLFY) — Evangeline Parish is set to open a new multimillion-dollar jail facility which will significantly expand its inmate capacity.
The new jail, currently under construction, will house 200 inmates, more than double the capacity of the existing facility. It features separate wings for female and maximum-security inmates, each with their own recreation yard.
“It’s a one-of-a-kind multimillion dollar facility. It’s brand new so everybody can really, really enjoy it,” said Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory.
The new jail facility in Evangeline Parish is expected to be completed and operational by Jan. 1, 2026.
The facility will include video conference rooms for arraignments, trustee dorms and office spaces for the warden and jail staff. There are also plans to build a chapel.
Guillory emphasized the advanced control room from which all operations, including opening cells and the sally port, will be managed.
“They’ll have a visual on each one from the control room. Everything is going to be operated out of this room,” he said.
Guillory expressed satisfaction with the progress in construction.
“And you can see the walls are already painted, and it’s coming along really good. And it’s a good feeling. You know, and it has been long overdue. And, you know, the people of Evangeline Parish really deserve this building.”
