City Manager and Mayor Padilla give an update on the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project

TOPEKA (KSNT) – An update on the Polk-Quicy Viaduct projects comes as 27 News caught up with Mayor Padilla and City Manager Robert Perez.

They say the construction crews are working extra hours to keep everything on schedule.

Work on the Polk Quincy viaduct began earlier this year. This $239 million project has forced the city to reroute traffic in the area. And as the project progresses, those detours change. Causing some confusion for drivers.

Perez tells 27 News that keeping the project on track and drivers informed are top priorities.

“Our public works department has worked very closely with KDOT on this project,” Perez said. “I understand that KDOT has had the contractor do some additional night work to keep the schedule on pace. But again, I think that as we get changes in our traffic patterns, I mean, we just have to continue working with KDOT on the communication, ensuring that the public knows when, where, and why.”

Perez also mentioned that he is very satisfied with how the project is looking and running. And appreciates the cooperation from the public on adjusting to the detours and the inconveniences.
