A zebra mussel has been found in Turtle Lake near Shoreview, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Ramsey County staff contacted the DNR after finding zebra mussel DNA in the lake last fall. During a three-hour search of the lake, staff found an adult zebra mussel.
Minnesota law requires you to do the following things to prevent the spread of invasive species:
Clean watercraft, trailers and equipment to remove aquatic plants and invasive species.
Drain water and leave drain plugs out during transport.
Dispose of unwanted bait in the trash.
Don’t release bait, plans or unwanted aquarium pets into Minnesota waters.
Dry docks, lifts and rafts for 21 days before moving them to another body of water.
Decontaminating watercraft and equipment can also help. CLICK HERE to find free decontamination stations.
If you find an invasive species in a new area, contact the DNR.
