(KRON) — A 32-year-old woman was hit and killed by a driver near the intersection of Woodside Road and Veterans Boulevard in Redwood City around 12:11 a.m. Monday.

The woman was hit near the intersection of Woodside Road and Veterans Boulevard, the Redwood City Police Department said. Officers responded to the emergency and found the unconscious woman lying in the road without a pulse.

“Officers immediately began CPR until relieved by medical personnel,” Redwood City PD said. “The pedestrian was transported to Stanford Hospital by AMR, where she was later pronounced deceased.”

The driver told officers that they were driving eastbound on Woodside Road toward Highway 101 when they “heard a loud impact,” while entering the intersection with a green light, Redwood City PD said. The driver allegedly pulled over and saw the injured woman in the road.

However, a witness’s account of the crash did not match the driver’s report, according to police.

“A witness, who had been walking with the pedestrian, told investigators that they were crossing Woodside Road southbound from Veterans Boulevard when the collision occurred,” Redwood City PD said. “The witness stated he had crossed ahead of the pedestrian and, upon turning back, saw her being struck. According to the witness, the pedestrian entered the crosswalk with the signal, and he believed the traffic light had not changed before the collision occurred.”

The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash and willingly gave police a blood sample, Redwood PD said. The crash remains under investigation.

Any witnesses of the crash are asked to contact Redwood City PD.
