Jarvis Jerell Grayson Jr., 26, of New Iberia, was charged with driving while intoxicated (5th offense), obedience to police officers, driving under a suspended license, resisting an officer, flight from an officer, careless operation and possession of marijuana.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said the previous DWI arrests happened in the last 10 years
An Assumption Parish deputy working traffic on Thursday, Sept. 18, saw a vehicle disobeying traffic commands, causing a danger to the public. After refusing to stop, Grayson drove until stopping in a private drive.
The New Iberia man was taken out of the vehicle, and the deputy smelled suspected marijuana and an alcoholic beverage on him. APSO said the deputy also smelled both coming from the vehicle. An open-air sniff by a K-9 showed that a controlled dangerous substance was present.
Based on the interview with Grayson, deputies believe he was using marijuana leading up to the traffic stop. Suspected marijuana was found during a vehicle search.
A breath test and blood were taken from Grayson.
The New Iberia man was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center after his arrest on Thursday, Sept. 18. He remains in jail on $140,000 bond.
