Greensboro police say that at 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 2, officers responded to Saint Matthew Court when they were told about an assault.
The boy’s family told our sister station WGHP that he was hit in the right side of his head by a bullet.
They don’t know how the child was shot, and they are asking for the shooter to turn themselves in.
The boy’s brother said his family is heartbroken, and they are praying for a miracle.
No one has been arrested at this time, and Greensboro police have not released suspect information or a motive for the shooting.
A woman who lives in the area asked witnesses to cooperate with investigators.
“It makes me uneasy. I hope they find who did it. I hope someone says something,” said Tara Rogers, a neighbor.
Rogers said this isn’t the first time a shooting has happened close to her home, and she’s had enough.
“I’m moving in two weeks,” she said. “I’m selling my house. I’m not comfortable.”
