Trial underway for man accused of crashing into MEDIC vehicle
The incident happened on September 21 during a weekend enforcement effort by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Wayne and Onslow County DWI Task Forces.
The joint operation focused on cracking down on impaired and reckless driving.
Deputies said they tried to stop a speeding motorcycle on I-795, but the rider, later identified as Christopher Pennington, of Kenly, refused to pull over. Instead, he accelerated, reaching extremely high speeds as he attempted to flee, authorities said.
As the chase entered the more populated area of Goldsboro, the motorcycle broke down due to a mechanical failure. Deputies took Pennington into custody and reportedly discovered a concealed firearm on him during the arrest.
Pennington is now facing several charges, including felony flee to elude arrest, reckless driving, and other traffic-related offenses.
