Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum told FOX 56 that the deceased was identified as Dawson Rapp, 13. He was a student at Lincoln County Middle School.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the crash around 4:30 p.m. on South Fishing Creek Road.
Deputies said the golf cart, driven by a female minor, left the roadway where it overturned.
She lost control of the golf cart, according to the coroner’s report, causing her and her passenger, Dawson, to be injured in the crash.
Officials said Dawson was taken to the emergency room, where he was declared dead due to blunt force trauma.
Lincoln County Public Schools issued the following statement on Facebook just after noon on Monday regarding the death of Dawson.
“We are deeply saddened to share that our school community has suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of one of our 7th grade students, Dawson Rapp, following a tragic accident over the weekend. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Dawson’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss.
In response, counseling services were made available this morning and will continue to be available at Lincoln County Middle School to support our students and staff during this difficult time.
We encourage anyone who may need support to take advantage of these resources. In times of grief, our strength lies in coming together with empathy, care, and compassion.”
There’s no word on the girl’s status.
The crash is still being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
