Hoosiers remember Charlie Kirk during vigil in Zionsville

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — A group of Hoosiers gathered at Mulberry Fields in Zionsville on Sunday to remember slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Law enforcement arrested Kirk’s suspected killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, on Sept. 11.

In the days that have followed Kirk’s death, tributes honoring him have popped up across the U.S. In Indiana, there have been numerous vigils held in memoriam of Kirk.

At Ball State University, a group of students held an event in remembrance of Kirk on Sept. 11. Similar events were held at Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis and at Indiana University’s campus in Bloomington.

A memorial service for Kirk was held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday. Among those who spoke at the event were U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, television personality Tucker Carlson and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Members of U.S. Congress also approved a resolution to make Oct. 14 a “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.” Authors of the resolution have indicated that the date would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday.

More than 200 people attended Sunday’s vigil for Charlie Kirk at Mulberry Fields in Zionsville.

The vigil, which was organized by the Republican Party of Boone County, had multiple speakers who addressed attendees from a stage via a sound system. Organizers also requested a strong a law enforcement presence for the event.

The Boone County Republican Party created overflow parking lots at Zionsville United Methodist Church and Zionsville Methodist Church because it expected a strong turnout for the event.

The Boone County Republican Party set up a QR code to allow vigil attendees to donate to Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded. Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, was tapped to lead Turning Point USA following her husband’s death.
