East end blaze destroys home, displaces three
SHENANDOAH – Three people are being assisted by the Red Cross after flames destroyed a home on Shenandoah’s east end.
The fire broke out around 2pm at a home at the corner of Lloyd and Emerick.
Smoke could be seen from as far as Frackville and Phinneyville as firefighters arrived to find flames engulfing the rear of the single home.
Additional alarms were struck summoning manpower from across the region to the scene to assist the Shenandoah Fire Department.
Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas told the Sentinel three people were displaced and the fire remains under investigation.
Initially, Examitas said, there were reports of entrapment but the residents were able to escape safely.
At least two cats were rescued from the blaze. Examitas said there were five in the home and three are unaccounted for.
Firefighters from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Ashland, Frackville, Englewood, Girardville, Ringtown, Ryan Township, Pottsville, and Nuremberg, among others, were at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The fire started at the rear of the single family home, Examitas said, and the home is a total loss.
